![]() ![]() ![]() It sounds ridiculous, but it came down to one thing: the page-turning buttons.įinally, I could read one-handed while holding onto a pole in the subway as I trundled along underground to work on my long commute! At that point, I had already been testing ereaders for about two years and I was still lukewarm on the idea of reading ebooks on one. Now anxiously waiting for Amazon to release their next Oasis to see if I want to upgrade. What it's like to read on the Kindle Oasisīack in 2016 when the original Kindle Oasis launched, I fell in love with reading ebooks on an ereader. I LOVE my Voyage and won't trade it for anything else. I wish it allowed disabling the touch gestures for page turns (like Oasis does). I know I could turn it off but I prefer the buttons over touching the screen. Now I have to be careful about the screen and the bezel. I instinctively never did that with my PW because I kept my hands off the screen and on the bezel. If it was more rounded like the PW or Oasis, this wouldn't be an issue.Ģ) I keep accidentally activating the page turn buttons/sensors. When holding it for long, you do start to notice it's edges pressing against your palm. I made the right decision after all.Īlmost everything is positive about Voyage except for a few things:ġ) Sharp Edges: Although I didn't notice it when I first started using it, I notice it more now when I'm reading for several minutes. I got my Kindle Voyage a couple of days after posting this and I have been reading on it everyday. ![]() If you have had one of the latest Gen Kindles and also have/had a Kindle Voyage, how do you compare them? Do you prefer one over the other? Do the newer Kindles load up faster than the Voyage? I ended up ordering the refurbished Voyage. My 6th Gen model could only go up to 5.12.2. It can be updated to the latest Kindle software version 5.12.5 (as of today, ) that also runs on the latest Gen models. What finally sold me was that, at 6.3 oz, it weighed less than the Kindle Oasis 3 or the latest Paperwhite. In fact some recent reviews still give the Voyage a higher score for screen contrast and readability than the latest Oasis 3. Other than the lower storage (8GB vs 4GB), the slightly smaller screen (7" vs 6"), the ability to change LED color, I didn't see any other major differences. I watched some videos on YouTube and compared the specs of Oasis 3 vs the old Voyage. It didn't.īut then I noticed that Woot was still selling refurbished Voyage for $70. I put it in my Amazon cart multiple times but then removed it hoping that it would go on sale soon during this pandemic. However, I couldn't justify the price of Oasis 3 even with the current trade-in deal of $25 + 20%. My current Kindle Paperwhite does 212 PPI. I also wanted higher PPI because I know that made a lot of difference when reading with a small font size. 20 seconds may sound trivial but if you pick up and put down your Kindle multiple times, that is a long wait. I have a screen lock with a PIN and it would take at least 20 seconds to get to the home screen or back to my book. One more thing that I started to notice was that my old Kindle took several seconds to load from its slumber. Both the latest Paperwhite (at 6.4 oz) and the Oasis (at 6.6 oz) weighed less than my old Kindle. At 7.8 oz, without any cover, it was kind of uncomfortable to hold it for extended periods with one hand while lying down reading. My primary reason for the upgrade was the weight of my old Kindle Paperwhite. I couldn't decide between the two models. I debated (with myself) about why I should upgrade my Kindle Paperwhite (6th Gen) with either the newest Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen) or the latest Oasis 3. You may or may not receive a reason.Ī complete and up to date list of rules is available on the new Reddit view Failing to do so will end up on your post being removed and/or your account banned.
